Meet the Artist and Owner

Carolyn M. Haylock, Artist and Owner of Polly’s Stump African Art Gallery was born and raised in California, MD, in St. Mary’s County.  She is an accomplished artist and has been drawing since her early childhood days.  She attended Great Mills High School where she was placed in Advanced Art Classes and continued forward to formally study art at Howard University.  Her Afrocentric Art is displayed in homes, businesses, galleries, churches, schools, and community centers through out the Washington metropolitan area and beyond.  Ms. Haylock has exhibited as far south as Charleston, SC and as far north as Philadelphia, PA.  She has shipped her art as far as California and Africa and has had the priviledge to travel to various African countries:  Senegal, Ghana, Equatorial Guinea, South Africa, and Angola.

Very proud to say that she regularly visits and displays her art in St.Mary’s County.  Attending annual events such as the Labor Day Festival at St. Peter Claver Church, Ridge, MD.  Ms. Haylock and her sister Patricia Sampson named the gallery in honor of their mother:  Mrs. Catherine “Polly” Thomas, who resides in St. Mary’s County with her loving husband of 55 years, Ralph Thomas, Sr. 

Ms. Haylock is quick to thank GOD for blessing her with the talent, spirit and energy to live out her dream.  She always  recognize her parents, sibling and family, specifically her daughters:  Tammy and Tori, grandson: Little Toby, and her friend of many years Franklin, f or all their love, encouragement, inspiration and support.
